TEAM TALK with Tommy Harrison

When Canaries new signing Tommy Harrison put his signature on the dotted line just before Christmas – little did he realise he would be lining up against his two former clubs in the matter of a couple of weeks.

The Liverpool-based defender made his first two appearances in a Caernarfon jersey against his old club Bangor City and today will see Tommy line-up against the club Connah’s Quay Nomads – the side who Town snapped him up from.

Speaking about today’s game, Tommy said: “It will be good to see some of my old team-mates and no doubt there will be a bit banter flying through text messages in the days leading up to the game but any sentiment goes out of the window once kick-off time arrives.

“I really enjoyed my time with the Nomads and I didn’t to leave but the club had a surplus of defender’s so I was left kicking my heels a bit and I needed first team football so when the gaffer offered me the chance to come down to Caernarfon I jumped at the chance.

“I’ve had no problems adapting to life at The Oval. The dressing room has a fair few pranksters in it and the fact there’s a great atmosphere has made it easier to settle in. There’s a few of us making the journey down from Merseyside too so that makes the hour and half drive pass a bit quicker.”

Like everyone else at The Oval – Tommy is praying that the rain that has besieged the West Coast over the last few weeks will subside so that Town can get their survival fight back on track.

Recent performances have given Canaries fans fresh hope and Tommy is hoping they can continue the improvement in recent performances and avoid any talk of relegation.

Tommy added: “Certainly the two showings against Bangor gave us fresh hope. To be fair we’ve not been carrying much luck in front of goal and once we get a break I’m sure the goals will flow and our fortunes will change.

“I thought we deserved a point from the Boxing Day game here at The Oval and we were very disappointed not to come away from Farrar Road with maximum points on New Years Day. We had about 80% of the game and City’s keeper pulled off some great saves.

“It’s just a shame Saturday’s game with Caersws was postponed because we were keen to build on New Years Day’s performance and keep the momentum ticking over but sadly the rain put paid to that. The last scenario we want is a fixture backlog come the end of the season.

“However today’s game will be a tough test because Connah’s Quay are having a great season and Neville Powell has done a marvellous job in guiding them into fifth position.”
