PAUL PRITCHARD INTERVIEW
As the current season ends – most players are looking forward to the summer break where they can put their feet
up ahead of pre-season training.
But Caernarfon goalkeeper
Paul Pritchard admits there is a tinge of disappointment that the end of the season has come too soon as far as The Canaries
are concerned.
Town looked relegation
certainties before Christmas but manager Steve O’Shaughnessy has worked a minor miracle in recent weeks and with Caernarfon’s
fate settled two weeks ago with a superb win at champions TNS.
“It’s
a shame that the season’s coming to an end because our form certainly in the second half of the campaign has been nothing
short of remarkable, added the Anglesey-based keeper.
“We went into
the Easter programme thinking we need to win something like two out of our last five games and I’d be lying if we were
not looking at perhaps outings against Newi Cefn Druids and Airbus as the best chance of picking up maximum points.
“But to beat
Welshpool at The Oval and convincingly defeat TNS shows just how much we have improved as unit. The TNS game was no fluke
– we could of easily been five goals up before they started to rally in the closing stages of the game.
“Without any
doubt the turning point of the season was the win at Airbus back in February and the victory at Cwmbran in what can be described
as perhaps some of the worst weather conditions I have ever played in, perhaps played a big part in our revival too.
“The foundations
have been built and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be pushing for a top half finish and a place in the FAW
Premier Cup.”
Today’s encounter
sees Town face Welsh Cup Finalists Carmarthen and Paul is unsure whether the focus of next Sunday’s live encounter with
Afan Lido will be praying on our opponents minds.
Caernarfon will be
desperate to end the season on a high especially after losing 4-1 at Richmond Park earlier in the season.
“It’s
a tough one to call”, added Paul: “I’m sure they will have one mind on next week’s game especially
in view that they won’t want to pick any injuries up ahead of the showpiece especially as it’s televised live
and a European place beckons for the winners.
“But I’m sure Mark Jones will have told his players that places for the final are up for grabs so it’s
a doubled-edged sword so I’m sure they will be well and truly up for the game.”
